Alterations to create two bridal looks
Over the years brides having two looks on their wedding day has become increasingly popular, typically wearing something more traditional for the ceremony and then getting changed for the reception. Wedding gowns are quite expensive, so for most people, it’s really not realistic to pay for two different dresses to wear. Plus, a lot of people don’t want to wear something different as they love the dress they’ve chosen, but just want a little tweak to show something different.
Luckily, there are ways to change how a gown looks throughout the day without having to purchase an entirely new one. Keep reading for some alterations that can help you to create two bridal looks out of one.
Additional sleeves
If you have a sleeveless gown or one with thin straps, but would like to have sleeves for the ceremony, then you can absolutely have some removable sleeves made. Your seamstress will be able to work with you to create something that suits the style of your dress and can be worn underneath to give the look of sleeves and then removed before the reception.
Typically they’ll be made out of mesh material with appliques added to match your gown and have buttons at the back that keep it in place. This can then simply be taken off giving you a different look for the next part of the day.
Add an overskirt
Many brides battle between having a fitted gown or one with lots of volumes, so why not have both? If you purchase a gown with a fitted bottom as your main dress you can easily have an overskirt made that buttons on top of your fitted skirt to give the look of a ball gown for part of your big day.
Similarly to the above, your seamstress will work with you to create a skirt that matches the look and style of your gown so nobody will be able to tell that you have an additional piece on. Then, when you’re ready to change the style, you can simply pop it off and pack it away ready to wow your guests with a second look.
Removable train
Having a long train can look stunning on a wedding dress, especially during the ceremony, however, they can become bothersome later in the evening when you’re trying to dance the night away. Luckily, removable trains can be made, leaving you with an easy way to have that classic feel in the ceremony while also knowing it won’t be in the way of the reception.
This can either be made similarly to the skirt, with buttons to pop it on and off on the gown. Or, if you really want a simple way to have a long train without additional fabric, there are veils available in cathedral length to give the appearance of a long train from your veil.
